Jesse Chisholm came to Indian Territory in the 1820s and for 40 years
he operated trading posts near Asher, Purcell, Watonga and Oklahoma City,
also the burial site of Left Hand, chief of the Southern Arapahos
Whirlwind Mission
was a day school opened in 1897 for Cheyenne Children
was named for the friendly Chief Whirlwind. In 1904 to 1917, it was a well
known mission school under the auspices of the Protestant Episcopal Church
