The population is approximately 4,000 and Watonga is the County Seat of Blaine County.

Founded in 1892, Watonga is named for the Arapaho Chief Watanga) or (Black Coyote).

Agriculture and ranching are big business here, along with gypsum mining and manufacturing. Diamondback Correctional Facility provides many additional jobs for Watonga.

Watonga is a popular spot for antique shopping, browsing through museums, fine dining, and few people leave town without stopping at the Watonga Cheese Plant, a major attraction.

The second Friday & Saturday in October, thousands converge on Watonga for the annual Cheese Festival. Visitors enjoy crafts, afts, antiques, street dance, cheese tasting, food contest, parade, mechanical bull riding, quilt show, great rat race, mouse walk, good food, classic car show and great entertainment.

Rich in clutural western history, Watonga has retained it's beautiful turn-of-the-century plains architecture. Individuals and tour groups enjoy spending time in Watonga.
