Firefighters
Watonga Firefighters were called to the 700 block of North Newer Sunday night on a gas leak. Apparently, a vehicle had struck the meter. Firemen were at the scene for about 15 minutes.
The Blaine County Farm Services Agency, NRCS and the OSU Extension Service will hold an information meeting tonight concerning changed to your farming operations as a result of the New Farm Bill. The meeting will be at the Blaine County Fairground in Watonga.

August 13, 2002 Sheriff's Report Blaine County Sheriff's Officers say a burglary was reported from 2 miles southwest of Longdale last Thursday. The victims had returned home and found the residence had been entered. They noticed $2 in cash and some loose change was missing. The physical evidence around the scene led officers to 2 juveniles; but no arrests were made. The case was turned over to juvenile authorities. A pickup was reported stolen near Greenfield last Thursday. The victim said he had left the pickup about 24 hours earlier while he was doing some farming in the area. Ad it was missing when he returned. The victim also said the vehicle was locked. The 1990 Ford 1-ton pickup had dual wheels, white in color, with Oklahoma tag UNZ-696. A domestic incident was reported to Sheriff's Officers early Saturday morning. They were called to the location 15 miles southwest of Watonga where a neighbor heard screaming. The male victim claimed his girlfriend came home screaming. He asked her to be quiet and she charged him; but the female allegedly fell and hit her head. There were no arrests.
Many voters in Tuesday's stateside primary election will be asked to update their address information. Because of redistricting, many voters who registered before 1995 will have incomplete address information. The Election Board says they need explicit directions on where your residence is located to make sure you are in the correct precinct. However, no one who has a voter id card will be refused the right to vote.

Firefighters Watonga Firefighters were called to the 100 block of Villa Drive Saturday where a broken gas meter was found. However, Reliant Energy would not answer their phone at that time. Firemen shut of the gas. The company was eventually notified. Watonga Police Watonga Police say 2 vehicles ere stolen from the area of Sunset Drive sometime Thursday night. The 1994 Dodge Dakota Pickup and the 1991 Ford Pickup both had keys inside. The thieves had been to the same neighborhood the night before and had tried to hot-wire at least 2 other cars. Both had been entered and both had their steering columns broke. Neither of the stolen vehicles has been recovered. An attempted break-in was reported from Cindy's Lectric Gizmos in the 200 block of Eat Main Wednesday. The owner was getting ready to open for the day when she found a window broken by a large stone. Police say the audible alarm scared away the burglars; but the phone dialing mechanism failed to notify Police of the break-in. Early Thursday morning, Police took a report from a 19-year-old male victim who reported that he was attacked by 2 individuals at Shady Grove Apartments. The victim had face, chest, and back injuries and also reported being postol-whipped and had an eye injury as well. The suspects have been identified. Watonga Police say due to concerns about West Nile Virus, they recommend that if you find a dead bird, do not handle the carcass directly. Put a plastic bag over your hand and then pick up the carcass and place it in another plastic bag. Then you would need to notify the Blaine County Health Department for instruction. They may want to examine the bird or they will give you instructions on how to dispose of it properly. Birds that are in an advanced state of decomposition are of little value. The Health Department number is 623-7977. Police took a report from a victim who reported their 6-year-old son had been bitten by a small black and white dog while in the parking lot of 33 West Restaurant Saturday. The dog was gone by the time police arrive. They request the owner notify them about the dogs vaccination information so the child will not have to take rabies shots. The dog was also dragging a chain. |

Filing for the Longdale Board of Trustees for the term expiring next April are Amy Sessions & James McGuire.
Filing for the term ending in April 2005 was Janet Woods. Patricia Whiteagle filed for one of the positions; but it was unclear which office she was filing for. The filing period ends today.

Tuesday August 27 is primary election day and the date for the Watonga Special Election. Polls will be open from 7 am until 7 pm. Anyone who is in line at 7 pm will be allowed to vote. Be sure to bring your voter identification card with you in case of any errors at the Election Board. You will be permitted to vote on the strength of that card alone. Slowest times are mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Be sure to mark your ballots correctly. If you make a mistake return the ballot and they will issue a new one. MY93 will have election results after 7 pm.
The dates for in-person absentee voting have changed. Voters can now cast their ballots on Any registered voter is permitted to vote in-person absentee without stating a reason. |

August 6, 2002 A workshop on Victorian Heirloom Beadwork will be Saturday August 24 at the Chisholm Trail Museum in Kingfisher beginning at 1 pm. Cost is $30. Call for reservations at 375-5176. The class will be taught by Sherill Lewis of Stillwater.
State Representative James Covey has been appointed to a committee that will study assets of gas gathering systems for the purpose of ad valorem taxation. The committee will study the valuation methods; then, evaluate those methods to see whether those assets are subject to the jurisdiction of county assessors and review existing opinions on the matter.
Covey said this is a problem that needs to be resolved. He said "There has been a dispute for some time now over the amount of tax revenue collected from the Oil & Gas Industry. The task Force will help find a resolution for all parties". The committee must complete its work by the end of 2003.

Sheriff's Report Blaine County Sheriff's Officers say a 37-year-old male victim was assaulted July 31st during an incident at Packy's Bar. The victim received injuries to the head, face, and left arm. The suspect has been identified and charges are pending. The victim was not hospitalized. On July 29, Federal Authorities were contacted because of damage to the GPS Location at the Canton Dam. The location, southeast of the dam had a fence damaged, the power knocked out, and a sign had been damaged. Loss was estimated at $2,000. Because it is a Federal Facility, the FBI is working with Sheriff's Officers and Federal charges of 'committing a terrorist act' will be pursued. An oil field theft was reported July 27 from a location west of Okeene by One-OK Resources who said thieves stole a pump motor valued at $7500. The investigation is continuing. Officers say physical evidence was found at the scene. Sheriff's Officers arrested 18-year-old Jorey Brook Stockton last Saturday after they were called to the Parker Bridge where shots had been fired. Stockton's car was one of three that was at the location when officers arrived. Stockton took off and after a brief chase officers apprehended the suspect who was also intoxicated at the time. A radio, CD player, amplifier, and one compact disc were reported stolen Sunday from southeast of Geary. The items had been taken from a 1994 GMC pickup. An accidental shooting was reported to Sheriff's Officers Sunday night. An 11-year-old Canton boy who was skeet shooting with a 16-year-old friend was standing behind the older and was apparently hit by a ricochet in the collarbone. The victim was treated and released from the Okeene Hospital.

The Watonga Hospital Board meeting that was scheduled for last Friday had to be cancelled because of a lack of a Quorum. The meeting will be re-scheduled.
Firefighters
Watonga Firefighters were called to a grass fire Sunday afternoon 7 miles south of town about 3 pm. They were at the scene for about 90 minutes. The fire consumed about 40 acres of grass before it was brought under control with assistance from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. No injuries were reported.
Last Thursday, lightening struck a water heater vent at a residence in the 700 block of East 1st. The lightening burned a hole in the gas line feeding the unit and ignited. The resident was able to extinguish the fire before the department arrived. No damage estimate from the lightening was available. Firemen were at the scene for about 25 minutes.

Watonga Police Early Sunday morning, at the reunion dance at the Blaine County Fairground, Police were called to the scene along with Watonga EMS where an unknown suspect reportedly beat a 23-year-old Oklahoma City man. The victim was taken to Watonga Hospital for treatment. Early Saturday morning, Police were called to Love's Convenience Store where a Weatherford resident reported his 2002 PT Cruiser had been stolen. The victim said he had filled the tank with gas and went inside to pay when a young male got into the auto and drove off. Officer Troy Majers was in the area of 7th & Forrest and found the vehicle. When he tried to stop it, a chase ensued for several blocks. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A search was conducted but was unsuccessful. The driver has been identified and a warrant will likely be issued. The vehicle had only slight damage. Friday morning, store personnel at Karl's Apple Market said they had caught 19-year-old Tracy Joe Greene of Watonga taking cans of whipped cream and 'huffing' the nitrous oxide propellant in order to get high. The man ran from the store employee when he was caught; but was arrested a short distance later. Watonga Police investigated 3 accidents over the weekend on Saturday, vehicles driven by 75-year-old Barbara Jean Foust of Watonga and 61-year-old Mary Edith Dinwiddie of Ardmore collided near Russworm and South Wikoff when the vehicle driven by Foust attempted to turn east onto Russworm before the traffic had cleared. There was one passenger but no one was injured. Total damage was $1400. Two more accidents were reported Friday at 8:45 that morning. A vehicle crashed into a tree at 4th and Leach. The vehicle was west bound and went left of center and off the roadway before it hit the tree. A witness claims he saw a Hispanic male wearing a white shirt and red shorts run south down Leach afterwards. Police also found an open container of beer in the vehicle. The driver may have also been injured the windshield apparently was struck by the driver during the crash. Total damage was $2400. At 6:30 Friday evening, vehicles driven by 24-year-old David Matthew Scott of Oklahoma City and 18-year-old April neal of Watonga collided at Russworm and Leach. According to the PoliceReport, the vehicle drive by Neal was turning into a private drive and failed to yield to Scott's vehicle. Total damage was $3,000. No one was injured.

Watonga Police say a male suspect took out his frustrations on a menu station at the Sonic Wednesday night after an argument with his estranged wife. He slugged the device the his fist and broke the glass. The suspect has been identified and charges are pending The suspect left the scene before Police arrived.

The Kingfisher and Blaine County Genealogy Society will present a 'Beginning Genealogy Program' Saturday from 9 till noon. The class will be at the Watonga Public Library, 301 N. Prouty in Watonga.
The Watonga Hospital Board will have a special meeting Friday at 4 pm to discuss the Quorum Management Contract. There is a period for public comments at the beginning of the meeting.
The mammography tool kit is available to health care providers in Oklahoma from the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality. The kit includes patient education materials, videos, brochures and a statewide resource guide listing mammography facilities certified by the FDA. Call 405-271-4072.
The filing period is Monday through Wednesday for candidates for municipal offices in the town of Longdale. The Election Board Office is open from 8 til 5 each day. There are 2 unexpired terms on the Longdale Board of Trustees. The election will be September 17.
Ag Producers have until Saturday August 31 to complete any haying or grazing on CRP acres, according to the Farm Service Agency. Because of the severe weather during the past 2 years, hay supplies have been depleted and Blaine County is eligible to haying or grazing of CRP acres. Producers can also donate, rent, or lease the haying or grazing privileges. Authorization is effective immediately after application. Contact the FSA Office in Watonga for information.
Today is the final reporting date for all summer crops including soybeans, grain sorghum, and sudan grass. Under the new farm bill, producers are required to file an acreage report on all crops before they are eligible to receive payments. The Blaine County Farm Service Agency says to call for an appointment at 623-8501.
