Alice Mildred Phillips

Alice Mildred Phillips was born January 25, 1911, at Kingfisher, Oklahoma to Harry & Annie (Hale) Newer.  She passed away Friday, March 10, 2006 at the Geary Nursing Home, Geary, Oklahoma, at the age of 95.  Her younger school years consisted of riding her horse to Parkhill Country School and spending time with her many cousins.  Mildred attended Kingfisher schools and graduated from Geary High School in 1929.  She attended Hills Business College in OKC, OK.  Mildred was a Bookkeeper for Lyon’s Brothers Cotton Gin for several years.  She was united in marriage to Wendell Waynne Phillips, Dec. 24, 1933 at the Newer Residence East of Geary.   He preceded her in death in July of 1992.  Mildred was a member of Oklahoma Order of The Eastern Star in Geary and served as Worthy Matron, a long time member of the Valley Homemakers Home Demonstration Club, and the First Christian Church in Geary, where she taught Sunday school.  She had been a member of the First Christian Church for over 70 years, at the time of her passing.  Mildred loved to play softball, basketball and tennis.  In her later years she and Waynne and friends enjoyed several trips to Branson, MO.

 

Survivors Include:

            Three children, Ronald Phillips of Geary, OK, Marilyn Owings & husband Arthur of Geary, OK, Terry Phillips of Geary, OK;  six grandchildren, Jiri & Kenny Lusk of Hinton, Shari & Bobby Opitz of Hinton, Phillip Owings of Geary, David & Michelle Phillips of Geary, Deborah & Mike Mathews of Clifton, TX, Dana Phillips of Walters, OK; 16 great-grandchildren & two great-great-grandchildren.

 

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Harry & Annie Newer , husband, Waynne Phillips, one grandson, Donald Phillips, and one great-grandson, Micah Seyler.

 

Services: First Christian Church, 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 13, 2006, Geary, OK

Officiating: Mr. Ralph G. Ranney

Burial: Geary Cemetery, Geary, OK, under the direction of the Turner Funeral Home, Geary, OK
