Dorothy Mae Hood
Dorothy Mae Hood was born September 30, 1925 to R.E. and Gertie (Pierson) Vowell in Van Buren, Arkansas. She passed away Sunday, December 10, 2006 at the St. Mary’s Mercy Hospital in Enid, OK at the age of 81 after a short battle with cancer. Dorothy was united in marriage to Ralph E. Hood April 7, 1942 in Watonga, OK. He preceded her in death October 11, 1977 in Watonga. She spent many years helping people in the Watonga Nursing Home and later at the Geary Community Nursing Home. Dorothy only retired from caring for so many this past February. This past summer, she put in her usual huge garden to which she loved sharing with family and friends, and loved tending her flower garden. Dorothy was a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church, Greenfield, OK.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R.E. and Gertie Vowell, husband, Ralph Hood, one son, Donald Hood, one sister, Opal Gene Prescott, and one brother, Donald “Pete” Vowell.
SURVIVORS INCLUDE: One daughter, Viola Wanzer, three sons, Louis Hood and his wife Janice, and Ernest and Doyle Hood all of Greenfield, OK; 10-grandchildren; 23-great-grandchildren; 5-great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Ralph Joe “Buck” Vowell and his wife Claudine of Canton, OK, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
