Fay Beatrice Cox Awtrey


Fay Beatrice Cox Awtrey, age 99, died Thursday, December 15, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK.


She was born in Duncan, OK, March 26, 1906, 1906 to Mary Bessie Brewington Cox and Frank Lewis Cox.  She was the second of five children.  At an early age Fay and her family moved to a farm northwest of Greenfield, OK, where she attended school and graduated from Greenfield High School.

 

Fay was united in marriage with Lee Awtrey in 1924.  They continued to live in Greenfield where Lee was engaged in farming and Fay was active in the Red Hill Extension Club and the Greenfield Baptist church.

 

About 1977 Fay moved to Watonga and was active in the First Baptist church and the Watonga Kitchen Band.  In 2000 she moved to Country Wood Manor Assisted Living in Kingfisher where she had many friends among the staff and residents.  Fay loved to play Canasta with her good friend Anna Taylor of Watonga and others.

 

She was preceded in death by her son Earl Fay Awtrey in 1933; her husband Lee Awtrey in 1961; and her daughter-in-law Sara Beth Awtrey in 2002.

 

Fay is survived by four children and their families; daughter Mary lee and husband Joe Halbert of Springfield, OR; son David and wife Virginia Awtrey of Ponca City, OK; son Gene and wife Sharon Awtrey of Bentonville, AR; son Kenneth and wife Kay Awtrey of Nacogdoches, TX.  Fay had 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 7 great, great grandchildren.

 

Fay was blessed with a cheerful personality and a good sense of humor.  We celebrate our blessings in sharing Fay's life.

 

The Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at 2 pm in the First Baptist Church, Watonga, OK, with Reverend Rick Vermillion.  Burial will follow in the Watonga IOOF Cemetery with Wilkinson Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
