Eugene "Gene" Thomas Moseley

Eugene "Gene" Thomas Moseley was born April 14, 1922 at the farm south of Watonga, Oklahoma to Thomas Wright and Maddie Mae 'Davis' Moseley, and went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday May 4th, 2008 at the age of 86.  Eugene attended grade school and high school in Watonga, Oklahoma and graduated with the class of 1940. 

Eugene enrolled at Oklahoma A & M College in Stillwater, Oklahoma in the fall of 1940.  He became a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity.  He enlisted in the Marines in 1942 and transferred into the Naval Air Corp and commissioned as Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1943.  He received his wings as a Navigator and served in the Navy until his discharge in July of 1946. 

Eugene completed his degree at Oklahoma A & M in 1946 and went to work in Wilson Meats in Kansas City.  Eugene married Mildred J. Gurtler of Beattie, Kansas on October 2nd, 1949.  Shortly after they married they moved back to Watonga to farm and raise a family.

Eugene became postmaster at Watonga in 1964 and retired in 1984. Eugene was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Watonga where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. 

He served  on the Board of Directors for Cornerstone Bank (formerly Watonga State Bank) for over 35 years; was a 60 year member of the American Legion, a member of Kiwanis Club and served as a school board member for 8 years. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred of 42 years, and his sister Sarah Parchman.

He is survived by three sons; Stanley Moseley and his wife Michaela of Houston, Texas, Wade Moseley and his wife Claudia of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Allen Moseley of Watonga, Oklahoma. 

He is survived by 5 grandchildren, Niki Whitehead, Eugene Moseley, Kirk Whitehead, Jessica Moseley and Gloria Moseley.

Funeral services for Eugene Thomas Moseley will be held Thursday, May 8th at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church in Watonga, Oklahoma with Rick Vermillion officiating.  Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Watonga with Wilkinson Mortuary in charge of arrangements.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Oklahoma Baptist Home for Children or the Watonga Memorial Hospital.
