Glen Roy Fetters

Glen Roy Fetters was born April 21st, 1920 near Hitchcock (Blaine County, Oklahoma) to Earl and Hannah (Haffner) Fetters, the 2nd of 7 children.  Glen passed away Friday, September 26th, 2008 at the Watonga Municipal Hospital.

He started school at Con 6 in Dewey County, and later moved to Omega in Kingfisher County, and graduated from Greenfield High School, in Greenfield, Oklahoma.

Glen enlisted in the Navy at the beginning of World War II; while in boot camp he was chosen to Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana.  Immediately after arriving at Purdue, he was told that he was a member of secret mission.  After several months of serious class work they were sent to Salomon's Island, Maryland and then to Trinidad in the British West Indies Islands.  Following his honorable discharge he returned to Watonga, Oklahoma and was employed by Safeway stores in Watonga, Cherokee and Enid, Oklahoma.  While he was in Enid, he met a young lady, the love of his life, Margaret Rosenbaum and they were married August 1, 1948.  To this union two children were born, Byron Earl and Jeannette Louise.  Glen and Margaret recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Glen was transferred to Perry, Oklahoma in October 1949 and soon became the store manager.  In August 1952 he was transferred back to Watonga as manager of the Safeway Store.  And with that increase of business, a larger store was needed by 1967.  He had a strong belief of helping young people obtain an education; if they had a class schedule that they could work with and keep their grades at a certain level, he would help them, it is known that 30 young people received his help.  After his retirement from Safeway stores, he and Margaret worked several years as landmen for several oil and gas lease companies.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Watonga and had served as the chairman of the church board and a member of the board of trustees and Watonga City Council and was a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by this parents, 4 brothers, Donald, Keith, Bob and Byron and a sister, Mary Ellen.
