Kenneth West

Kenneth West was born July 15, 1926 at Wanette, Oklahoma to Abner and Willie West and passed away Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the age of 80.  He was a lifetime resident of the Watonga community.  He entered the service December 15, 1944 and trained in the Army Infantry.  he participated in the liberation of the Southern Philippines and the liberation of Japanese occupation in Korea.  Kenneth served as a medical  tech truck driver in the 40th Infantry Division, as a military policeman, and as a cook in the 207th M.P. XXIV Corps and was discharged November 24, 1946.

After his service he returned to the Watonga community to farm.  He attended the Etna Wesleyan Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and later attended the First Christian Church in Watonga.  He belonged to the American Legion,  and served on the FHA Board and on the Board of Education at Greenfield.  He was married to Neva Forney at Watonga on July 18, 1947.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Abner and Willie West; and siblings, Jess West, Clyde West, Ernest West, Raymond West, Goldie Wilder, Lucille Blevins, and Elsie West, an infant sister. 

He is survived by Neva West of the home in Watonga; three daughters, Cathy Bristo, Vernon, TX; Connie Sanders, OKC; Kay Brummal, Watonga; one brother, Hubert West, Glencoe; five grandchildren, Jeff Bristo, Jill Ratterman, Mark Roark, Zac Brummal, and Raegan Brummal; and seven great grandchildren, Carson, Spencer, and Bennet Bristo, Amber and Jade Roark, and Drew and Ella Ratterman.

Funeral services for Kenneth will be held Wednesday, May 2 at 10:00 at the First Christian Church in Watonga with David Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery at Watonga with Wilkinson Mortuary in charge of arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
