Laquita Joyce Plaster

Laquita Joyce Plaster was born February 22, 1936 at Greenfield, Oklahoma to Gerald "Jack" and Nell Richardson and passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007 at the age of 71.  She was a member of the Watonga community all of her life.  She graduated from Greenfield Schools where she played basketball.  On July 3, 1955 she married Kennith Plaster and together they made their home in Watonga.  After her youngest started school, Laquita went back to college and received her bachelors and then Masters in Education and Music from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

She taught at Greenfield and Longdale schools before opening and operating Wildflower Gift Shop in Watonga in 1979.  She ran the gift shop with her mother, Nell until 1992.  After which she worked for the Oklahoma State Department of Health in Kingfisher, Oklahoma as a health educator until 1996.  She married George Hughs in 1995 and he passed away in 2006.  Laquita was a member of the First Baptist Church in Watonga, Chapter CF PEO and active in the Greenfield Alumni.

Her grandchildren were blessed to have the loving care of their Mee Maw and Mee Mee; she lived her life for the glory of God and to let her light shine for Him.  She fought a courageous battle with Melanoma for 17 years.  She never complained and often wore her "Thou Shalt Not Whine" shirt while enduring chemo treatments.

She will be missed by all that knew her, but her legacy will continue in her children, grandchildren and all that were fortunate enough to know her.

Her family would like to thank Dr. James Hampton and his nurse Judy and Rita and other staff members at Cancer Care.  Also a special thank you to the nursing staff at Deaconess on 6 north for being so loving and compassionate to mom in her final days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kennith and second husband George Hughs.

She is survived by:
1 son, Kent Plaster and wife Sharmi of Mustang
