Orville R. Owens
 

Orville R. Owens was born February 23, 1926 at Holdenville, Oklahoma to Charley F. and Clara, and passed away Thursday, August 3, 2006 at the age of 80.

 

He was a resident of the Watonga community for over 30 years.  In February of 2001 he was honored for fifty years of service in the Oklahoma newspaper industry and was known for his column, Reflections.  He graduated from Seiling High School and was a member of the Canton Y Church of Christ and attended the Church of Christ in Watonga.

 

Orville served on the USS Cabot in WWII and served with the 45th Infantry in Korea.

 

He was married to Maydie Crawford at the Lutheran Church in Watonga on March 23, 1957.  They shared forty-nine and a half years of marriage.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arvie; sister, Ann Evans; half-brother, Wesley Owens; and half-sister, Myrtle Manire.

 

He is survived by his wife, Maydie of the home in Watonga.
   one son, Kelly Owens of Watonga
   two daughters, Brenda Burnett of Yukon; and Terri Crawford of Watonga
   three brothers, Donnie Owens of Moore; Billy Owens of Muskogee; Tommy Owens of Shawnee

   one sister, Margaret Simpson of Holdenville
   five grandchildren, Jennifer Surratt, Candace Lamont, Lauren Coleman, Allen Owens and Alexa Owens

   four great grandchildren, Dessa Khosravi, Tad Surrett, Riley Coleman and Reese Coleman.

 

Funeral services for Orville will be held Saturday, August 5, 2006 at 10:00 am at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Watonga with Rev. Neol Sexton officiating.  Arrangements by Wilkinson Mortuary of Watonga.

 

Memorials may be made to the Watonga Hospital Memorial Fund  or the Watonga Senior Citizens Center.
