Roberta Black
Roberta Black was born October 20, 1936 in Watonga, OK, to Chief Ralph Paul Blackbear and Stella Minni Redwolf Blackbear and passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the age of 70. Her Cheyenne name was Hou'an net' meaning "Earth Woman Standing" named after Imogene Chapman Fisher. Her husband was Larry Black Sr. She was a sister in the Kit Fox Society and daughter of one of the original Cheyenne Chiefs of 44, member of the Cheyenne Native American Church and a member of the Oakerhater Church. her children are Mary Whitehat, Norma Black, Kimberly Black, and Cecil Black. Nineteen grandchildren as well as numerous nephews and nieces, adopted relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter; Rita Gayle Black Shakespear, one son; Larry Black, Jr., and one older sister; Imogene (Blackbear) Big Medicine. Wake services for Roberta will be held Sunday March 4, 2007 at 7:00 pm at the Cheyenne and Arapaho Multi-purpose Center in Watonga, OK. Funeral services will be held Monday March 5, 2007 at 2:00 pm at the Cheyenne and Arapaho Multi-purpose in Watonga, OK. Burial will follow in the Watonga Indian Cemetery in Watonga, OK with Wilkinson Mortuary of Watonga, OK in charge of arrangements.
