Virgie Powers

Virgie Powers was born on May 21, 1912 to Guy and Carrie Baird in Watonga and died June 29, 2007 at age of 95.

She attended Greenfield and Watonga schools.  She married Olen 'Dutch' Powers on May 12, 1929 and to this union 4 children were born: Delores, Bobby, Betty and Doris.

She was a member of the Christian Church and busy Bee Club.  She was a 4-H, FHA and FFA sponsor while her children were in school.  She was the bookkeeper for the East Mt. Pleasant Cemetery for 40+ years.  She had lived on the farm for 78 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dutch; infant daughter, Delores; son, Bobby; daughter in-law, Dorothy; son-in-law, Jack Ware; sisters, Vera Baird and Mildred Dalke; brothers, A.V. Baird and Marvin Baird.

She was survived by her daughter Betty and husband Emily Taylor of San Antonia, TX and Doris Ware of Watonga, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 22 great-great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services for Virgie will be held Monday, July 2nd at 10:30 am at the Christian Church with the Rev. David Johnson officiating.  Wilkinson Mortuary of Watonga, OK is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Watonga Hospital Foundation or the Watonga Christian Church.
