News and Information about Watonga's Main Street    by Bob Shoemaker
What's Happening on Main Street

April 14, 2008.

Had a good crowd at the Watonga Chamber of Commerce banquet last Thursday night at the Watonga Christian Church . The Director of Tourism, Mr. Hardy Watkins was the principle speaker and did a great job. He said that we could expect to see a lot of improvements to Roman Nose State Park in the future. This was really good news as it seems that Roman Nose had not gotten a lot of attention in the past. Tony Kohl did his usual great job at being Master of Ceremonies, He along with Chamber President Doug Shirley presented a number of awards to deserving folks. Awards were presented to  Teacher of the year Charlotte Constance, Volunteer of the year Joyce Lucas, Business of the year  Watonga Medical Clinic, New business of the year China King Restaurant.  Beautification awards were presented to the City Of Watonga and Watonga Main Street Inc.  The folks involved with the Chamber are working hard to pick up the pieces and bring the  Watonga Cheese Festival back to it’s former glory , we certainly wish them much success in this endeavor.

Some folks from the Watonga Main Street board will be making there annual visit to the State Capitol for Main Street Day at the Capitol . Mayor Dale Green will be accompanying us this year as they are asking all Main Street communities to invite the Mayor of their city .This provides a great opportunity to meet and visit with our various legislators and perhaps  make them more aware  of what is happening in Rural Oklahoma. It is hard for them to visit each community and still take care of business at the Capitol. We talk to them about the needs of our area and they make suggestions on ways that these needs might be met.

We recently sent out Membership dues statements to our Watonga Main Street members. The response has been very good. It is gratifying
