If you were in downtown Watonga last Saturday night , you were bound to have seen dozens of little spooks and goblins scurrying about.
The Blackdog Night and 4-H Carnival was originally designed to provide our kids with a fun and safe place to celebrate Halloween. This year the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts also helped make the event a huge success.
The Girl Scouts under the guidance of Jenifer Gauer joined the Watonga 4-H Club in providing lots of games in the old Stage building.
The Boy Scouts under the direction of Steve Poulson had their Haunted House going full force in the Armory building again this year, which got a lot of attention from the little folks, we hear it was a pretty scary experience.
Down on Main Street our Main Street Volunteers were selling hot dogs and other treats. Jeff Fritz did his regular great job in providing back ground music all evening. Mary Lee Jones and Penny Hogenson had a tough time judging the costume contest. There were a lot of kids in costume. As near as I could count there were about 40 who actually entered the contests.
Dogs were kind of sparse this year for some reason , in the past we have had an abundance of decorated doggies. However everybody had a great time and prizes were handed out for the best in each category. In staying with Main Streets policy of providing fun for the kids at a nominal cost, we brought in a giant inflatable slide and allowed all the kids to go on the slide as many times as they wanted, in a two hour period, for only two dollars. We had seventy five kiddies who took advantage of the slide to have great time.
Those volunteers from the Main Street Program who helped make the evening a success were Tony Kohl, Rex Kraft, Mike Russell, Gerald and Veva Daugherty , Mary Lee Jones and Penny Hogenson and Donnie Dunn.
