She worked for Dr. Fred Lucas in his dentistry office while she was in high
school. She knew then what she wanted to be when she grew up.
After coming back to Watonga, she worked in the offices of Dr. Barrett and
Dr. Edsall. In 1989, she bought the lot where she is now located on
the corner of 2nd Street and Clarence Nash. The old house there was
torn down and her offices were built by Norman and Tim Taylor. She
remembers how tough the zoning laws were; the city insisted on a metal
building which they later bricked around.
Andrea said her grandfather, Jude Matli, was one of her
first patients. He insisted that she needed a concrete driveway; so he
helped her pay for a concrete driveway.
Andrea brought
Tammy Taylor and Sandra Pearson over from Barrett and Edsall to her new
office. She still needed a receptionist. She asked Betty
Chapman, who had recently retired from the Post Office to help her in her
new office. Betty was reluctant because she had just retired and she
felt that she didn't know anything about a dentist office. But, Andrea
convinced her that all she needed to do was to talk (on the phone making
appointments and greeting patients). Betty says now that was a great
time of employment and Andrea was a great boss.
Today,
Dr. Scoville has a crew of five: Carman Luetkemeyer, Sandra Pearson, Kristen Cowan, Billie Terrell,
and Melisa Cooper
Dr. Scoville remarked that dentistry
is ever-changing; she continually attends classes to keep her office
up-to-date. After twenty years of being in her own office, she really
gets a kick out of meeting and taking care of the children of the children
that she first had as customers.
