KIMY 93.9 -- THEN AND NOW
KIMY-FM began as a dream come true for Jim and Vera Dunn of Anthony, Kansas.
Jim, after successfully operating a newspaper for many years, decided to act on his dream. He had always wanted to own a radio station. His wife, Vera, an Oklahoma native decided that a radio station was needed to serve the many smaller areas surrounding her home town of Thomas, Oklahoma. Watonga, a close neighboring city became the chosen sight. (location: 5 1/2 miles north of Watonga on Highway 8, just north of the Roman Nose State Park entrance).
On December 12, 1987 at approximately 2 p.m. a switch was activated and 3,000 watt transmitter became the birth of our areas first and only radio station.
KIMY, "MY-93" SERVING A LARGE AREA OF WESTERN OKLAHOMA.
KIMY became popular immediately and the slogan "MY-93" has remained.
In 1988, the current General manager, Ron Gabe joined the crew for KIMY as news director. Bob DeLong (sport director) soon followed in 1989.
Ron recently passed his 25th anniversary in broadcasting and Bob DeLong reached his 30th mark in 1994. Both broadcast veterans bring a variety of experience to their on-air work. Both know a successful radio station requires many hours of dedication, hard work and public interaction.
As for their public interaction, in 1992 KIMY bought a utility van from the Watonga Schools. The students in Chisolm Trail Vo-tech (Automotive Technology) rebuilt the van from the Ground up with the assistance of local businesses. All for a total cost of $275.00.
A contest was held in the naming of the new addition and a local residence of Watonga won the contest in nickname the van "Swatmobile".
On September 7, 1992 at a Watonga football game the "Swatmobile" was revealed to the public for the first time. Since then KIMY has become remote and travels from town to cities, serving the communities of a greater part of western Oklahoma.

Ron sets up 'live' broadcasts from locations that range from store opening to nursing home open house, farm/fair events, etc… Bob DeLong becomes active with school sports begin in the fall. He travels where school events lead him. Just to bring the listeners , back home, play by play action of their home teams at work. Bob has been to almost every stadium in Oklahoma.
During the last 10 years, KIMY has 87,000 hours of broadcasting, 20,000 news casts, 31,000 weather forecasts, over 100 Watonga Football games, 150 Watonga basketball games, baseball games, 250 OSU football and basketball games and uncounted neighboring cities and town games.
