Mrs. Lettkeman's second grade has been learning about the Oklahoma State Symbols and important Oklahomans and significant places as part of their study and celebration of the centennial of Oklahoma.
They have had several excellent speakers who have volunteered their time. In addition they chose as a class the most significant pictures from over 50 and colored them on fabric as part of a class quilt. he project is to help them to develop as a classroom community and with the community. The class rode the bus to the Senior Citizens' Building to have the Sr. Citizens help them tie the quilt. Parents and grandparents came to help too. It was a great experience for the students and the adults. Everyone learned something they didn't know and before the students left, adults and students sang the state song, "Oklahoma". The spirit of quilting, the social aspect was enjoyed y everyone.
As a result of the project, State Senator Ron Justice is planning a visit to Mrs. Lettkeman's class to see the quilt and to share with the class about Oklahoma.
